Meet the Team
Ramsland Laidler Solicitors has deep roots in Newcastle’s legal community. In 1999, Mark Ramsland’s practice merged with the respected long-standing firm Borthwick, Wilson, Smith and Bates. Around this time, Mansell Laidler and James Wallace joined Mark in practice, bringing their combined experience and strengthening the firm’s capabilities. Together, they formed what is now known as Ramsland Laidler Solicitors.
Today, the firm operates from a heritage-listed building at 57 Watt Street, formerly the military barracks for Newcastle and located beside the United Services Club. This historic setting reflects not only our long-standing presence but also our commitment to serving the Newcastle community with integrity and professionalism.
Mark Ramsland
Managing Solicitor
Mark Ramsland has over 30 years’ experience in criminal law and court advocacy, appearing in all criminal jurisdictions including appellate courts. He is a member of the Law Society of NSW Criminal Law Committee and is actively involved in community rehabilitation initiatives.
Mansell Laidler
Consultant Solicitor
With more than 45 years in the NSW legal system, Mansell Laidler brings extensive experience in criminal law and general litigation. Known throughout the courts for his practical approach and good humour, he has worked across NSW before returning to Newcastle in 1999.
James Wallace
Consultant Solicitor
James Wallace has over 20 years’ experience across the Hunter and Newcastle regions, now focusing on family law and Local Court criminal matters. He is a past President and Treasurer of the Hunter Valley Family Law Practitioners Association.
Chris Watsford
Senior Solicitor
Chris brings 25 years of experience in the NSW criminal justice system, beginning as a Police Prosecutor before serving as a senior solicitor and Managing Solicitor at the Office of the DPP. His background gives clients strong strategic insight into the prosecution process.
